Bryndefaid Stud

Welsh Mountain Ponies

We are a small stud based in the north of Scotland aiming to breed a type of pony which is able to compete in all ridden disciplines but retains the scope, quality and size of the true Mountain Pony.

2010 Review:

We as usual have left it so long in updating the News page that the season is once more over and we are now already thinking ahead to next year! Once again the In-Hand showing campaign never made it past the starting line, and it was left to the ridden ponies to fly the Bryndefaid Flag ! Huge thanks to to Katy Marriott-Payne and and all the team for doing such a fantastic job with Bryndefaid St. Andrew and Cadlan Valley Sandpiper.

Cadlan Valley Sandpiper

Catherine had the most fantastic season on Sammy, who excelled for a 4yo, qualifying for Hoys at SoE in June, and coming 10th in the Final. He also qualified for the Royal International in both Open and Juniors, and was Champion at NPS Championships in the Junior ridden.

Bryndefaid Pingu

A big thanks and congratulations go to Charlotte Elliott-Grooby, and Nick & Lisa for their fantastic season with Pingu, after being outgrown by Catherine Mr. Gu has spent this season on lease to them. He finished the season with a 4th Place in the M&M First Ridden at Hoys after his 2nd at the Royal International. Pingu has now been sold to the Jewson family and we wish him every continued success, and for next season Charlotte will be hopefully bringing out his brother Bryndefaid Pluto.

Sad Goodbyes :

As well as all the successes 2010 has been a difficult year with the loss of some well loved favourites, in the spring we said goodbye to Bryndefaid Dilys after complications with Cushings, and in August we lost our Stallion Friars Siacob following a battle with Testicular Cancer.
Then in September disaster struck when both Bryndefaid Poppy & Bryndefaid Phoebe were taken ill with Grass Sickness unfortunately Phoebe did not make it passing away the next day, but Poppy has fought back and is improving slowly, hopefully with time she will recover.
